The UK has a government-subsidised National Health
Service (NHS) and all residents of the UK, by the deduction of National
Insurance from salary, are entitled to medical coverage. As a foreign
national living in the UK, in order to apply for NHS registration
you need to have obtained a National Insurance (NI) number.
NHS runs the modern hospitals all over the UK and the services and
facilities are constantly upgraded to offer most modern healthcare
facilities.
To obtain an NHS number you must register with a local doctor (known
as General Practitioner or GP). EU Nationals can apply for an E111
form, which entitles them, in case of an emergency, to partially free
medical coverage anywhere within the European Union.
The global reputation of the UK's excellent healthcare service is
reflected in the fact that more than 20,000 overseas patients attend
London's private hospitals and clinics each year.
For information on the National Health Service see: NHS
Private insurance is available throughout the UK. This however is
for specialist help only and does not cover visits to the GP.

The healthcare occupations mainly of doctors and nurses are included
in the Shortage Occupations List in the UK and HSMP scheme also provides
special scoring points for the fully registered General Practitioners
in the UK. |

How I wish such a site was available when I applied for HSMP and came to UK under HSMP! Till before two days of our departure for the UK, we were not sure about where we will go when we land and if there would be any one to receive us at the airport. It was really a time of a lot of stress for us. Fortunately for us some friends of friends helped us, but I am sure not all of us are so lucky and HSMP Services will be able to help those who need such support.
