Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) of the UK is designed to allow
individuals with exceptional personal skills and experience to come
to or remain in the United Kingdom to seek and take work.
The UK government operates a programme to allow individuals to seek
entry to work in the United Kingdom without having a prior offer of
employment, or to take up self-employment opportunities. As per the
statistics available thousands of applicants had applied under HSMP
scheme since the programme started, however only about 3,700 applications
were approved till October 2003.
HSMP aims to provide an individual route for highly skilled people
who have the skills and experience required by the United Kingdom
to compete in the global economy. Applications made under HSMP are
applications for an immigration status. The HSMP Programme is such
a potential programme
for highly skilled people who want to migrate to the UK that it is
among most popular immigration programmes.
SUMMARY OF CHANGES TO HSMP FROM 05 December 2006
- Qualifying threshold is increased for all applicants to 75 points.
- Points for Work Experience removed except for Bonus 5 points
for UK work experience or full-time studies in the UK.
- No points are available for Skills of Spouse / Partner.
- Special Assessment according to age is modified.
- Points for Significant Achievement removed
- Special treatment to Medical GPs removed
- English Language proficiency of IELTS Band 6 compulsory.

How I wish such a site was available when I applied for HSMP and came to UK under HSMP! Till before two days of our departure for the UK, we were not sure about where we will go when we land and if there would be any one to receive us at the airport. It was really a time of a lot of stress for us.
