You may not be able to switch to Tier 1 General if you are a dependant in the UK
- I am outside the UK. Can I apply under Tier 1 General for UK?
Yes, you can apply for Entry Clearance under Tier 1 General to come to the UK as a Tier 1 General Migrant. The only difference as compared to HSMP scheme earlier is that you will need to submit the Tier 1 General Application at the British High Commission or British Embassy in the country where you are living.

| What is Tier 1 General? |
|
Tier 1 is part of Points Based System for UK Immigration. Tier 1 General has different schemes like Tier 1 General for Highly Skilled, Tier 1 Entrepreneurs, Tier 1 Investors and Tier 1 Post Study Work. Tier 1 allows any individual to apply for Leave To Remain or Leave To Enter i.e. Entry Clearance if he/she can score required points under PBS, UK. Tier 1 General, Tier 1 Investors and Tier 1 Entrepreneurs leads to Indefinite Leave To Remain after 5 years continuous stay in the UK.
