UK Border Agency, Home Office, UK has announced the launch of Tier 1 (General) Scheme for Highly Skilled, which replaces the popular HSMP (Tier 1 (General) Highly Skilled UK) scheme in the UK with effect from 29 February 2008. Tier 1 (General) was launched in India from 1 April 2008 and now from 30 June 2008 Tier 1 (General) scheme is launched globally. |
What is Tier 1 (General) Scheme for Highly Skilled? |
| Tier 1 (General) Scheme for Highly Skilled is an Immigration Scheme or Visa to attract Highly Skilled individuals to come to the UK and settle in the UK. As in old HSMP, Tier 1 (General) Scheme leads to Indefinite Leave To Remain (ILR) after 5 years continuous stay in the UK under Tier 1 (General) and such similar schemes.
Tier 1 (General) for Highly Skilled is a Points Based Scheme where you can qualify based on your score for your attributes such as Age, Education, Earnings and UK Experience. You have to score 75 points for your Attributes. You also have to score 10 compulsory points for English Language Proficiency and 10 points for availability of Maintenance Funds. In short, you must score 95 points to qualify under Tier 1 (General) for Highly Skilled. |

Highlights of Tier 1 (General) Scheme for Highly Skilled: |
- Qualifying threshold is increased for all applicants to 95 points.
- You have to score 75 points for Age, Education, Earnings and UK Experience
- You have to score 10 points for English Language Proficiency.
- You have to score 10 points for Maintenance Funds requirements
- English Language proficiency of IELTS Band 6.5 compulsory.
