Students Visas for the UK have now been placed under Tier 4 of Points Based System for UK Immigration and the Tier 4 Visas have gone live in the UK and globally. The Tier 4 Visas, consist Tier 4 General for Adult Students and Tier 4 Child Students and if you wish to come to study in the UK, you are now required to apply under Tier 4
New Points Based System has five main Tiers or Levels of Visas and these are designed to allow only those who
meet the strict conditions as laid down by the UK Home Office.
Tier 4 Visas cover the UK visa categories as applicable to those who wish to apply for permission to come to the UK or remain in the UK to undertake full-time studies for a course which is more than 6 months. If you are between 4 and 17 years of age, you should apply under Tier 4 Child Student category, however if you are coming to the UK for a post-16 education you should apply as a Tier 4 General Adult student. If you are aged between 4 and 15 you cannot study at a publically funded school in the UK but must come to study at an independent fee paying school. Tier 4 Visa Scheme has following different categories under Tier 4:
Tier 4 General Adult Students
Tier 4 Child Students
Under New Points Based Immigration System of the UK, you can score points for different attributes and if you score the required number of points, you can apply under Tier 4 category. If your application is successful, you can come to the UK for an approved course of studies at an accredited and licensed education provider college, university or institution in the UK. You can extend your permission to live and study in the UK under Tier 4 category
IF you are coming to the UK for studies on a short-term course of less than 6 months duration, then you will need to apply as a Student Visitor under one of the following categories:
Student Visitors
Child Student Visitors
While you are in the UK as a Student Visitor or Child Student Visitor, you cannot switch into Tier 4 Student category if you wish to study further but are expected to return to your home country and apply for entry clearance from there. However, if you have not been able to decide which course to join or which college to join, you may be able to come to the UK as a prospective student for six months and within these six months you may be able to switch to Tier 4 General Student category or Tier 4 Child Student category
